Police Encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh Leaves Notorious Thief Injured, Two Arrested

A police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district left a notorious thief injured and two others arrested during a late-night checking operation in the Raniganj area. Police recovered the vehicle and stolen items, while a search continues for one absconding suspect.

A late-night police operation in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district escalated into a brief but intense encounter when officers came face to face with a group of suspected criminals during a routine check, leading to injuries, arrests, and a continued manhunt for a fugitive accomplice.

The incident took place in the Raniganj police station area near Budhaura Kumbhapur, where police teams were conducting vehicle checks as part of heightened security measures. According to officials, the suspects attempted to evade the checkpoint, prompting police to intervene. The situation quickly deteriorated, resulting in an exchange during which Mithilesh Kesarwani, described by police as a seasoned thief, was shot and injured.

Following the encounter, police successfully apprehended two other suspects, identified as Lavkush and Pawan Yadav. A fourth individual managed to escape amid the chaos and is currently being traced, authorities said. The injured suspect was taken into custody and provided medical treatment under police supervision.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the vehicle used by the suspects, along with stolen property, was recovered from the scene. The seizure is expected to aid investigators in linking the accused to previous theft and robbery cases in the region.
